The creek,
or Dubai creek that
separates city-center is perhaps the mirror, which reflects the
city’s development along the passage of time. It is the living
witness to the many changes the city has gone through. Tourists
who feel like strolling along the creek’s banks can feel the
nostalgia of age-old trading practices. One of the many
attractions that can be found along the creek is the presence
of the “dhows”, Dubai’s
own and distinctive water vessel that still ply the ancient
trading routes. These dhows can even reach as far
as India
and parts
of Eastern Africa.
The creek
has a lagoon to boast of which was transformed into a sanctuary
of migrating birds and wildlife animals from the colder parts
of the earth, seeking refuge in the friendly-climate of the
city. This creek has even turned as the home of many Greater
Flamingos and other migratory avian creatures that has made the
place naturally spectacular.
The constant
developments that are taking place in the city’s prominent
creek, which are happening from both sides have also
contributed to making the creek a tourist destination on its
own. The well-lit and paved promenade makes a stroll along the
banks truly exciting and enriching, giving the visitors a full
view of the other side of the city depending on which part
creek the tourists are.
What better
way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery than to take a ride in
one of Dubai’s
interesting water vessels--- the abra. It is the city’s water
taxi that travels across the creek from the side of Deira to
the side of Bur Dubai. Tourists can also experience riding the
abra, which will pass along the course of the creek, that gives
the visitors the opportunity to take a glance and appreciate
the imposing modern landmarks as well as the historic
architecture of the city that are reminiscent of a bygone
era.
